Richard and I loaded up the van with shoes, clothes, food and one special bicycle. We took out the seats and packed bags tightly into every space available for this trip. Through ONE spirit organization we have sponsored a little boy for a couple of years the link is http://www.nativeprogress.org if you are interested. We take school supplies and a birthday present to him in August.
Family is very important to the Lakota Indians, and there are several (12 or more) people who live in a three bedroom home. Everyone takes care of the little ones and we saw a great respect for the elders. The poverty level is about 85%. I used to think, why don’t they just get any job available? There are clothing issues, transportation issues and also motivation problems. Fifty percent of the population is diabetic due to poor nutrition and health care is minimal.
We were blessed with good weather and safe travel.
Thanks to all who donated clothing, money, and prayers!

Thursday, August 27th, 2009Canning Season
Saturday, August 15th, 2009Most farmers around here talk about Harvest and how life seems to be put on hold while they finish up the last few acres of wheat. I feel that way about canning season, I just think things are under control and some one gives us veggies or we find some cucumbers that have hidden in the grass from us. Not wanting to let anything go to waste, we clean, cut and can. We call all of this blessings. Even the mulberry jelly that is very liquid will make great pancake syrup. Yummm. Rich purple syrup with the taste of summer enjoyed while the wind and snow blow outside.
We are going to see if our son will deep fry a turkey for a group from our chuch the end of Sept. It went over great last year and I am kinda tired of hamburgers and hot dogs.
We put together one of those outside fireplaces on legs, last evening. I think it will be fun to sit under the carport and be able to see the fire and maybe find a couple of granddaughters who want to roast marshmallows over the coals.
I better go and check the last of the potatoes. The canner is cooling down and I thought I heard the pressure valve click.
Take care and let the Lord be your guide!
